Munich, Germany

PROST! Germany and Beer are synonymous. I’ve been to Munich 3 times and I’m always impressed with the food and beer scene. I mean, who doesn’t love Bratwursts and 6% gigantic beers. The last time I was there in 2015, my favorite part of the city was the Viktualienmarkt which is an outdoor market that contains all the fresh food you can put in your face. My favorites were the stuffed peppers, soft pretzels, every variety of olive, yellow potato salad, and of course, the bratwurst. Sit outside in the shade at the long picnic tables with your closest friends, listening to German music and wash all the food down with a German beer. Reader Warning: This is probably only a solid option in the Summer/Fall when it is nice weather to be outside.

Other cool Munich Experiences: If you’re a sports fan, Allianz Arena is 30 min outside downtown Munich on public transit and it is home to the mighty Bayern Munich Futbol Club. They are a world class soccer club and to experience ‘futbol’ with the Germans is something I’ll never forget. The stadium itself is cool and very high tech… classic German engineering. Add the atmosphere (think SEC football tailgating), fireworks being shot off in the stands, and German beer… can’t beat it. Neuschwanstein Castle is my other favorite and that is why it is my featured image. The 2 hour trip out of Munich and into Bravaria is worth it. Breath taking mountain views, interesting family history and great hiking. The guy who built it, Mad King Ludwig II, was a serious clown. He’s the reason we have this beautiful castle (and others), Oktoberfest, Richard Wagoner‘s music (trust me, you’ve heard it) and why Disney’s Magic Kingdom looks like it does. But seriously, read about this guy before you visit or take the tour. Mind-blowing! There is a reason they called him the ‘Mad King’.
